A Suffolk County Superior Court judge has issued a preliminary injunction against Kalshi's sports betting operations in Massachusetts. The ruling comes at the request of state Attorney General Andrea Campbell, who contends the prediction market violates gaming regulations.

Judge Christopher Barry-Smith indicated the injunction WOULD be finalized after a January 16 hearing, requiring Kalshi to comply with state sports betting laws. The court emphasized that regulated oversight protects both public welfare and state revenue interests, though the judge may stay the order pending appeal.

Attorney General Campbell hailed the decision as bolstering Massachusetts' gambling framework and mitigating risks from unregulated wagering. The ruling underscores growing regulatory scrutiny of prediction markets and their intersection with traditional gambling statutes.
